The government work report of Chongqing municipality in Southwest China was released during the fifth session of the fifth Chongqing People's Congress on Jan 17.
Looking back at the achievements made last year, the report highlighted the 10 research institutions and 14 research teams led by academicians introduced to the Liangjiang Coordinative Innovation Zone.
The report also attached importance to the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Project on Strategic Connectivity, for which a five-year development plan has been formulated. The project has reportedly signed $25-billion-worth of business programs and $23.2-billion-worth of financial programs.
The service trade value in Liangjiang in 2021 exceeded $7 billion, while the cross-border e-commerce transaction volume in the new area is expected to grow by 50 percent, according to the government work report.
In the coming year, Liangjiang is encouraged to build the Liangjiang Coordinative Innovation Zone to a higher standard, focus on emerging businesses and future industries, and gather more open, international and high-end R&D institutes.
The function of Lianglu Cuntan Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, and Yuelai International Exhibition City will also be further enhanced.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
