The 2022 Chengdu-Chongqing key project list that is committed to the fulfillment of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle was unveiled by the Chongqing government on Feb 8, containing 160 major projects that involve a total investment of 2 trillion yuan ($314.4 billion), according to news from the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission.
The projects to be constructed by the two regions involve modern infrastructure networks, modern industrial systems, sci-tech innovation centers, tourism, eco-construction and public services.
About 40 projects involving modern infrastructure networks totaled 1.35 trillion yuan in investment, including the construction of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu Railway, Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou Railway, Chongqing-Xi'an Railway, and Chengdu-Chongqing natural gas base.
In terms of modern industrial systems, 72 projects with a gross investment of 540.2 billion yuan are centered on manufacturing, digital economy, modern services, and modern special agriculture.
The two sides also pledged to accelerate layouts in key sci-tech infrastructure, form industrial innovation platforms, and co-construct the Western (Chongqing) Science City.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
