Last year, Chongqing municipality in Southwest China recorded 2.6 trillion yuan ($410.02 billion) in output among industries above a designated size, a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent and the highest figure in six years, according to news from the Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission on Feb 21.
In terms of industrial structure, the automobile industry – one of Chongqing's pillar industries – has benefited from continued high sales of newly launched mid and high-end vehicles. The electronic information industry –Chongqing's other dominant sector – has been working to address weak links in its industrial chain.
The municipality has also formed 40 State-level and 1,014 municipal corporate technology centers, as well as 77 municipal industrial and information laboratories.
More than 70,000 5G base stations, 105 smart factories, and 574 digital workshops have been set up, and about 101,000 enterprises have received guidance in registering on a series of cloud service platforms.
In 2021, Chongqing also fulfilled 41 green programs involving energy and water conservation, clean transformation, and comprehensive utilization of resources. The municipality now has 52 green plants, five green industrial parks, 48 types of green design products, and five green supply chains.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
