During the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday from April 3 to 5, more than 70 municipal and district-level construction projects in Liangjiang New Area – located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality – remained uninterrupted.
The new area considers improving education essential to raising living standards for residents. On April 4, nearly 200 workers continued construction work on Xinghai School, a new secondary school in Liangjiang. The project involves an investment of 530 million yuan ($83.05 million) and has a planned construction area of about 60,000 square meters. The first phase of the school is expected to be completed on July 30 and will have an enrollment capacity of 700 students.
Jinshan Yuncui Primary School is a smart demonstration school under construction in the new area. It will have an enrollment capacity of 1,620 students. Its first phase has already been completed, while the second phase is expected to be ready on June 30 this year.
The school is well-equipped with an academic report hall, a standard playground, an indoor stadium, psychological consultation rooms and a number of other special rooms.
As a key technological innovation platform of the Chongqing Liangjiang Coordinative Innovation Zone, the Beijing Institute of Technology Chongqing Innovation Center being constructed will focus on automobiles, modern communications, advanced manufacturing, big data and new materials, and will deploy scientific studies, talent fostering programs, and international academic exchange activities.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
