Four major municipal projects in Liangjiang New Area, including the sixth-generation flexible active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) production line and the smart and systematic innovation center of BOE, and the semiconductor package substrate project from Altus, have received a total of 2.14 billion yuan ($334.91 million) for the first quarter of this year.
The four projects are proceeding smoothly. The sixth-generation AMOLED production line project is located in Shuitu New City and covers an area of 970,000 square meters. It officially achieved mass production on Dec 28 last year, and its staff members are currently procuring and installing equipment. The cutting-edge technology products and services will be widely applied in the new generation of flexible smartphones, foldable laptops and vehicle displays.
Work on the BOE smart and systematic innovation center was launched in October 2020, with the main structure of the building currently under construction. The project will consist of five platforms devoted to integrated technology research, new material and equipment transfer, product and service promotion and exhibition, international talent training and exchange, and technological openness and market cooperation.
The center will focus on the fields of smart retail, smart finance, industrial internet and public services for intelligent cities, channeling more high-quality resources of domestic display and sensing industrial chains into the Chongqing market.
Altus is reportedly Europe's largest high-end semiconductor package substrate producer, with its products mainly used in mobile devices and in automobiles, aerospace, industry, medical electronics and ICs. Chongqing is one of the firm's most important manufacturing bases.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
