A two-month reading campaign was launched in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on April 22 to celebrate the upcoming World Book Day on April 23. It was organized by the Party work committee and the administrative committee of the new area.

The unveiling ceremony of the campaign was attended by Pi Tao, deputy director of the new area's administrative committee. During the event, Liang Yingxia, director of the new area's social development bureau, read a proposal calling on every resident to read for at least one hour a day and make reading a lifelong habit.

A series of book-reading activities have been underway in Liangjiang, and residents are allowed to recommend their favorite books and share their insights through Liangjiang's official WeChat account. In addition, the government has also collaborated with the Fandeng Reading Club to send 100,000 free audio book listening cards to locals.

The new area's cultural pavilion and library are currently under construction, and eight of its sub-districts have their own cultural centers or community cultural activity rooms.

Last year, Liangjiang launched a cloud library, making three major digital resource databases accessible to locals. The library offers 120,000 e-books and 100,000 hours of audio book reading to residents. Follow the WeChat account of "重庆两江新区" (meaning Chongqing Liangjiang New Area), and click "云上图书馆" (meaning cloud library) to partake in the event.
