By the end of May this year, Chongqing municipality in Southwest China had registered 38.56 million metric tons of carbon emissions, with contracts worth 780 million yuan ($116.38 million) signed.

Enterprises in Sichuan province have agreed to reduce carbon emissions by 34.13 million tons, involving a total of nearly 1 billion yuan.

To date, Sichuan and Chongqing have established 14 waste classification and recycle demonstration counties, and Chongqing's refuse decontamination rate has reached 100 percent, ranking first among cities in western China.

The two regions have created a special fund of 300 million yuan for water pollution governance, environmental protection, and industrial structure adjustment from 2021 to 2023.

Chongqing has also accelerated steps to broaden the application of distributed solar photovoltaics as part of efforts to transform its energy structure.

Last year, Chongqing's industrial output was valued at 2.6 trillion yuan, with that of the energy conservation sector remaining at about 100 billion yuan. During the first quarter of this year, the added values of the municipality's high-tech industry and strategic emerging manufacturing industry both remained at 10.6 percent.
