A delegation from the government of Shandong province visited Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on July 1-3.
During the delegation's visit, a joint conference on East-West Coordination (referring to the coordination between China's eastern and western regions) was held between the two governments, which was addressed by top government leaders on both sides.
Chongqing officials expressed their heartfelt gratitude for Shandong's generous assistance, and cited East-West Coordination as a significant decision made by the central government to balance regional development and bolster mutual prosperity.
Efforts to deepen one-on-one collaboration were urged to consolidate the results achieved in the poverty alleviation campaign. Shandong and Chongqing should develop agriculture in mountainous areas as well as the regional special economy, including agricultural product processing.
In addition, the two regions are expected to further cooperate by promoting in-depth industrial coordination in automobiles, electronic information, equipment manufacturing and biomedicine, encourage the integration of digital economy and real economy, and further modernize the current supply and industrial chains.
The Shandong delegation also visited Chongqing’s innovation and entrepreneurship centers, rural tourism programs, and industrial collaboration projects during its visit.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
