The Consulate General of Myanmar in Chongqing officially began operating on July 12. Liangjiang New Area, the Chongqing office of China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation and Development Association (Myanmar) and Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology signed a strategic cooperation contract.
According to the agreement, a China-Myanmar industrial park will be set up in Liangjiang.
According to Qin Shubin, deputy director of the new area’s administrative committee, the three sides will give a full play to their respective advantages in resources, policies, industry, and geography to promote collaboration and exchange between the two countries in sci-tech innovation, trade logistics, digital economy, catering and tourism.
The three sides will jointly establish a sci-tech innovation promotion center focusing on agriculture, new energy, environmental protection and other areas, and will hold international technology commercialization activities related to agricultural machinery, new energy vehicles (NEVs) and sewage governance.
They will also accelerate the import of agricultural products, rubber, jewelry, coffee, tea, rice and other special products from Myanmar to China, and at the same time promote the export of Chinese NEVs, agricultural machines, mobile phones and laptops from China.
In addition, the three sides also plan to join efforts in smart traffic, medicine, education, tourism, cross-border finance, online platforms and livestreaming, in order to facilitate Myanmar’s industrial digitalization.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
