Local news reports on July 26 suggested that 142 firms based in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, have been listed as municipal specialized and new enterprises in 2022, ranking first in Chongqing. The firms are mainly in automobiles, electronics, biomedicine and testing.
Liangjiang currently boasts 500 specialized and new companies, including 15 national little giant enterprises and 261 municipal specialized and new firms.
According to He Chuanzheng, deputy head of the new area's industry promotion bureau, Liangjiang has doubled down on efforts to cultivate specialized and new small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by channeling more talent, technologies and other resources to these companies and offering targeted services.
"We have held four government service activities for specialized and new enterprises in the first half of this year, informing corporations of specific application procedures for specialized and new companies, as well as the preferential policies these companies can enjoy," said He.
In June, the Liangjiang government issued an action plan to ensure the high-quality development of specialized and new enterprises in key areas – auto, electronics, advanced equipment, healthcare, new materials, digital economy and modern services – and sought to provide them with support in terms of technological innovation, product quality improvement, finance, talent and public services.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
