Liangjiang New Area held a key project launch and completion ceremony on July 30, in which 39 projects with a total investment of 41.3 billion yuan ($6.1 billion) were launched, and 37 projects with a total investment of 35.3 billion yuan were completed.
The 39 launched projects included 18 involving infrastructure, 13 involving public services, six involving major industries, and two involving sci-tech innovation.
The innovation space project at the fifth phase of the Liangjiang Coordinative Innovation Zone has a construction area of 360,000 square meters and will set up research institutions for four universities – Harbin Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore, Hunan University and Beijing University of Technology.
So far, the zone has established 700,000 cubic meters of business incubation areas, brought in 49 research centers, set up more than 110 R&D platforms, and is home to 24 academician research teams.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
