Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has taken full advantage of cutting-edge technologies such as big data, cloud computing, blockchain, and AI to produce new innovations in city management approaches, models and concepts and set a good example for smart city construction.
The Xihu Road streetlight upgrading program finished on Aug 16. The upgraded streetlight can adjust its height automatically to prevent surrounding plants from blocking it, increasing the safety of pedestrians and drivers at night.
An unmanned cleaning boat operates in the Jinshan Lake for 14 hours every day, capable of collecting floating garbage in the lake and monitoring its water quality. Sanitation workers for the lake are often over 50. The boat reduces the need for them to work in hot weather.
The new area's smart city management demonstration program involves 27 technologies in six specific areas – municipal facilities, landscapes, transportation, water conservancy, forestry, and environmental protection. It includes a streetlight able to adjust its brightness according to the outside environment, a dustbin that enables people to gain credits for gifts if they put their garbage into the correct container, and a well lid that can sound an alarm if it is moved.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
