Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality was recently recognized as a national civil unmanned aviation pilot area, according to local news reports on Aug 26.
Relying on the new area's industrial foundation, flight conditions, special flight scenarios and geography, the pilot area will support the integrated application of satellite internet and long-range drones.
Meanwhile, Liangjiang will explore and establish new management and service mechanisms, security evaluation methods and emergency response systems for the pilot area.
Chongqing's valleys, mountains and hills provide many unique environments for the driverless aircraft trial, while Liangjiang boasts one airport, one flight service station and other supporting facilities, creating a conducive environment for the trial.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
