Exports such as automobiles, auto spare parts and minerals from places in western China are now being collected at the Guoyuan port, which is located in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality. Commodities will then be transported to Southeast Asia via the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
The gantry crane remote control system, unmanned bayonets, and paperless procedures have significantly increased the port's efficiency. Shi Yunzhong, a staff member of Minsheng International Shipping Agency Co based in the port, was impressed by the port's accelerated development. "I have been here since the port first began operating, and in recent years containers from ships are being unloaded and delivered more quickly."
In addition, Guoyuan port also prioritizes sustainability and green development, and has invested 180 million yuan ($26.05 million) in the construction of eco-friendly equipment.
The port's multimodal transport model has linked it with routes to the east, west, north, and south. Guoyuan port – a future global terminal – is thriving, laying a solid foundation for Chongqing in an effort to become an inland hub of opening up.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
