Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality will focus more on the improvement of city functions, according to a meeting held on Sept 15.
Focusing on city renewal, people's welfare, and sustainable development, the new area will strive to build a demonstration living and working area that is greener, more international and intelligent.
By 2025, the area directly administered by Liangjiang will reach 260 square kilometers, which will then accommodate about 1.3 million people, and all these people are expected to be able to commute between their homes and their companies within 30 minutes.
In addition, the infrastructure network of the new area will be further optimized by setting up a comprehensive three-dimensional transport system, promoting the reconstruction and renovation of the old residential areas, and completing the service facilities of communities.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
