The Liangjiang New Area – located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality – has presided over the spending of 17.08 billion yuan ($2.4 billion) on 27 municipal-level key projects in the first three quarters of the year, with the construction of many of them now drawing to an end.
About 84 percent of a major production complex being built by US materials science technology and glass group Corning Inc has been finished and some of the plants have already been erected, with others finishing off interior work.
A smart innovation center currently being constructed in the new area by BOE – China's largest liquid crystal display panel maker – is expected to be finished by the end of this year, with the exterior landscaping work now taking place.
After it goes into use, the center will be an innovative ecosystem platform that integrates technology development and commercialization, industry incubation, talent exchanges and product exhibitions.
The construction of the Longxing professional football field in the new area has also been accelerated and is estimated to be finished by the end of October.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
