The work plan for Southwest China's Chongqing to boost its intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) and new energy vehicle (NEV) industries was rolled out recently.
The plan stipulates that by 2025, Chongqing will strive to be home to 300 ICV and NEV spare part suppliers and promote the intelligent transformation of 500 traditional auto component manufacturers.
By then, the number of national specialized and new little giant firms in the auto part sector is expected to reach 100, and the total ICV and NEV spare part industrial scale is expected to reach 250 billion yuan ($34.45 billion).
The city will strive to establish a well-planned and relatively complete ICV and NEV spare part supply chain system by 2025, as well as develop and produce a series of stand-out products.
In addition, the municipality will focus on making new breakthroughs in highly-safe power cells with a high energy density and advance the R&D and industrialization of next-generation solid-state batteries.
A total of 50 representative technological research projects and their commercialization will be supported by the government. One or two national innovation platforms, as well as 10 municipal ones in this area, will also be set up soon in Chongqing.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
