Saic-iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co (SAIC Hongyan), which has established a smart factory in the Liangjiang New Area, recently launched a hydrogen-powered heavy truck, which was recently put into commercial use in Shanghai.
The new trucks are mainly used to transport auto spare parts between auto component suppliers and carmakers. They rival traditional fuel-powered vehicles in operation efficiency and can store 31 kilograms of hydrogen. It only takes 20 minutes to refill the truck, and its maximum range exceeds 400 kilometers.
In response to the nation's dual carbon goals, SAIC Hongyan began formulating its new energy business layout in 2021, when it launched a new energy heavy truck manufacturing base in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Just three months after the launch, the company churned out and delivered its first series of products.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
