The newly-built 24-hour smart bookstores in the Renhe and Dazhulin sub-districts in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing, were opened to the public on Jan 12.

The smart bookstore in Renhe sub-district implements intelligent management so that residents can enjoy 24-hour reading, listening and viewing services just by swiping their ID cards or social security cards. Volunteers will assist in operating the bookstore, and will provide help where needed.

"The smart bookstore is in the square, and it is convenient to borrow and return books by just swiping your ID card." Residents who came to read books praised the smart bookstore.
The smart bookstore covers an area of 90 square meters. It is divided into a shared reading area, a free reading area, a collections area, and an equipment area. In addition, there is an open leisure reading platform with more than 30 seats.

At present, the smart bookstore has more than 2,500 books. This includes children's picture books, encyclopedias, literature and art books, historical biographies, and other categories. In the future, with the help of technology, the smart bookstore will be able to carry out intelligent analyses on the preferences of residents. It will be able to recommend good books to readers on a regular basis according to their interests.

The smart bookstore in Dazhulin sub-district is located in the China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, covering an area of 80 sq m, and equipped with more than 3,000 quality books.
There are thousands of enterprises and research centers around the smart bookstore in Dazhulin sub-district. It provides a public space for more than 30,000 employees to read, communicate with each other and relax, thus helping to optimize Dazhulin's business environment.
Liangjiang is speeding up the construction of public reading spaces to make reading more convenient and intelligent. This will further improve the quality of its urban culture.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
