Chongqing Cuntan International Commercial Zone covers about one square kilometer and is composed of a bonded port area, water port area, comprehensive supporting area, and other areas. It will function as an international business center with a focus on foreign investment, economy, and trade, an international shopping destination, a popular gathering area for expats that hosts cultural and commercial events, and a demonstration area of the RCEP agreement.
The design plan is expected to reflect the concept of people first, feature green, ecological, and energy-saving buildings, and highlight the idea of internationalization, smart city, and humanity. It needs to contribute to the overall development of the Cuntan International New City in terms of spatial layout, traffic organization, and environmental landscapes.
Cuntan International New City is located by the Yangtze River and at the core area of Chongqing's major urban development plan of "two rivers and four banks". The new city extends for 6 square kilometers and consists of an international commercial zone, cruise home port, and international consumption area.
According to the development plan, Cuntan International New City will become a major economic growth driver supported by the cruise economy, international consumption economy, and fashion economy, a logistics hub that connects Chongqing with the rest of the world, and an example of the integration of modern urban landscapes and natural scenery.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
