Sichuan province and Chongqing municipality in Southwest China jointly released the 2022 Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle development monitoring report on April 2, indicating positive results.
Over the past year, the circle registered 7.76 trillion yuan ($1.13 trillion) in GDP, a year-on-year increase of 3 percent. This accounts for 6.4 percent of the nation's total, and 30.2 of the western China's total, respectively.
The added value of the economic circle's primary industry stood at 646.96 billion yuan, contributing 7.3 percent of China's total, which is 0.1 percentage points higher than the national level. The added value of the circle's secondary industry recorded a rise of 3.8 percent, while the added value of the tertiary industry came in at 4.12 trillion yuan.
In 2022, Sichuan and Chongqing focused on automobiles, electronic information and other sectors to achieve 7.7 trillion yuan in sales revenue from manufacturers above designated size.
In addition, the total retail sales of consumer goods between the two regions reached 3.45 trillion yuan, and the new-type consumption represented by the online shopping develops steadily.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
