A signing ceremony for the first-quarter projects of 2023 took place in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on April 6, during which a total of 70 major project agreements were signed, including four to be carried out in Liangjiang New Area, which involved 17.35 billion yuan ($2.52 billion) in investment.
The four projects focus on automobiles, electronic information and digital economy.
Li Jie, a member of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party Work Committee and vice-director of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, was present at the ceremony and signed the agreements on behalf of the new area.
According to Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Investment Group Co, the four projects will facilitate the building of a modern industrial system and aid Liangjiang in its goal to become a high-quality life demonstration zone and a leading area for high-quality development.
Two 200-billion-yuan industries – automobiles and electronic information – have been shaped in Liangjiang, with emerging areas for high-end equipment, biomedicine, aerospace and aviation, new materials, software and information services growing fast.
The auto sector in Liangjiang, for example, includes 10 automakers such as Changan, Changan Ford, and SERES, more than 200 core auto part suppliers, and a number of automotive research institutions, boasting an annual car output of 2.4 million.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
