The Fifth Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) opened in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on May 18.

On the same day, the Liangjiang New Area pavilion made its official debut. The total exhibition area of 800 square meters was divided into five sections showcasing the new area's remarkable achievements in opening-up, industrial development, innovation, digitalization and intelligentization, and improving people's quality of life.

The new area is currently shaping its own modern industry network. It has two pillar industries – intelligent connected vehicles and new energy vehicles, and electronic information. They are supported by several strategic emerging sectors, including high-end equipment, life and health, aerospace and aviation, as well as modern services represented by modern finance, global consumption and digital trade.
Now the new area boasts nearly 10,000 active digital economy market entities, with the number of practitioners exceeding 90,000.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
