From January to April this year, Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing experienced a notable surge of 19.5 percent in total retail sales of consumer goods above a designated size. It is worth mentioning that this figure is significantly higher by 17.4 percentage points compared to the average increase observed in Chongqing.
Meanwhile, the key wholesale sector achieved 102.81 billion yuan ($14.78 billion) in sales, and the key retail sector reported 16.61 billion yuan in sales volume during this period.
The new area is the primary venue for the China (Chongqing) international consumption festival. In preparation for the upcoming holidays, such as May Day and Mother's Day, the new area is encouraging business districts, shopping complexes, and special business streets to offer more sales promotions.
A variety of esteemed global companies have joined forces to provide exclusive opportunities and discount programs. In addition, gatherings centered on pet conferences, literary exchanges, delightful coffee and tea samplings, and outdoor barbecues were also held. Such activities have gained immense popularity, particularly among the younger demographic.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
