Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has gathered 12 automakers, including Changan and SERES, and 120 automotive spare part providers above a designated size. It has formed the "headquarters R&D-car making-core component supporting-vehicle wholesaling-application scenarios" full-chain development pattern.
Last year, the new area recorded 165.18 billion yuan ($23.29 billion) of automobile output, up 23 percent, accounting for 36.6 percent of Chongqing's total.
The electronic industry is the new area's other backbone. So far, Liangjiang has formed its "new-type displays + IC + smart terminals" electronic industrial cluster.
Especially in new-type displays and smart terminals, the new area has been home to 26 supporting companies producing backlight modules, polarizers, and glass substrates.
High-end equipment, biomedicine, new materials and energy storage, and aerospace and aviation are future industries Liangjiang is cultivating.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
