The Elite Engineering School of Chongqing University was officially inaugurated in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on June 19.
Wang Shuxin, president of the university, and Li Jie, deputy head of the new area's administrative committee, attended the inauguration ceremony.
The new school resulted from the in-depth cooperation between the university, leading enterprises, and research institutes. So far, the university has jointly launched postgraduate cultivation programs with nine enterprises, including China Resources, China Southern Power Grid, CICT, and BYD.
Chongqing University started to work with Liangjiang on engineering education in 2020, and the two sides have established the Mingyue Sci-tech Innovation Experiment Classes and the Chongqing Elite Engineering School.
The Elite Engineering School of Chongqing University plans to enroll about 240 master students and 60 to 80 doctoral students from 2023 to 2025. The school will set up six to eight joint research centers, one engineering simulation center, and at least eight engineers' technology centers in five years.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
