Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality registered 17.8 billion yuan ($2.48 billion) in the total retail sales of automobiles above a designated size over the first six months of this year, 11.2 percentage points higher than Chongqing's average auto sales growth.

Among them, the new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales saw a whopping surge of 103.3 percent, accounting for 52 percent of the total. The Chongqing auto sales headquarters of Avatr, Tesla, Li, and Zeekr generated total sales revenue of 5.9 billion yuan.
The NEV sales took off thanks to the bureau's modern service bureau, which has organized several NEV purchasing subsidy campaigns, promoting NEV sales totaling 2.32 billion yuan.
The government has also introduced the first sales store of many auto brands, including Tesla, Livan, and GAC Aion.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
