Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the World Trade Point Federation (WTPF) on Sept 7.
Luo Lin, secretary of the new area's Party work committee, welcomed the WTPF delegation led by its president Bruno Masier and highlighted Chongqing's status as the only municipality in Central or West China and Liangjiang's as the country's first inland open new area. Luo hopes that the federation can help attract more foreign traders and assist local enterprises in going global.
Bruno Masier said that the federation, which helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in over 70 countries worldwide trade internationally through the use of electronic commerce and information technologies, has been working with many Chinese areas to promote international trade. He is confident about Liangjiang's development potential and pledged to help it enhance its global influence and expand exports and imports.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
