Chongqing's West Outlets plaza – featuring hundreds of well-known international brands and indoor activities such as skiing, skydiving and football – will be built in Longxing Industrial Park of Liangjiang New Area (LNA) in 2014.
"Liangjiang New Area will represent a new State-level economic and development zone in 2014," said Tang Zongwei, delegate to the National People's Congress (NPC) and deputy secretary and executive deputy director of the Party working committee of Liangjiang New Area. Tang said that the West Outlets shopping plaza will bring a new internationalized shopping experience to residents in Chongqing and West China.
The fifth-generation West Outlets plaza differs from other shopping malls and other domestic Outlets plazas because the new plaza is expected to offer shopping, sports and other leisure activities together. It is designed and operated by Italy's famous GA Group.
The merchandise in Outlets plazas are always in season because Italian GA Group signs contracts directly with branded merchants. Moreover, discounted commodities in LNA Outlets plazas will be much cheaper than those in other domestic Outlets plazas operated by agents.
Outlets plazas specialize in selling fashion brands and luxury commodities from Italy and Europe. Nearly 200 famous international commodity brands have been set up in Outlets plazas. More than 70 percent of commodity brands are international brands.
According to an LNA official, the area strives to start first-phase construction in the first half of 2014, and the project is expected to be completed before Spring Festival in 2015.
John Edwards, the UK trade commissioner for China, praised Chongqing over its rise as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
